I’m taking five classes this semester, English class for multilingual, Intro Macroeconomics analysis, Intro Biological anthropology which is for my GE class, two classes for PE Elementary Karate and Personal Defense. In terms of the unit, those classes are 12 units. I have some classes I wanted to take but I couldn’t because I missed priority registration, so I will take them in the next semester, Winter or Spring.
The other day, I went to the bookstore to buy my textbook of this semester but unusual thing for Japanese happened. I picked the textbook for my Macroeconomic class up and went to cashier desk to pay the money but the staff said “one hundred twenty one seventy cents”. I though “What!?” $100 on one book!? I’d expected to pay much money for the textbook but it was a little beyond it. The book, however, is $100 worth, so I’ve got to learn English properly and get a knowledge related economics from it.

Or maybe it is to make money for the publishing company! Sometimes, students can buy textbooks cheaply second-hand. I wonder if there is a second-hand bookshop on campus?

This was one of my culture shocks. As some of the professors in US own their company, I think there are some differences on the system of higher education between Japan and US. I took up “higher education in US” as the topic of paper when I was junior in my Japanese university. This was so interesting topic that even now I’m reading a book about it once in a while. From it, I can see a lot of perspectives, and this study abroad has taught me the system I can’t know in Japan.
There is a bookstore on campus. I heard most of the workers there are university students. Since many students want to get a part time job on campus, it’ seems very difficult to be hired.

Hi, ryo. I’ve had great time in here, San Francisco. I’m studying at San Francisco State University right now. One month and a half has already passed since I came here! I’m studying a lot on weekdays and hanging around SF on weekends but sometimes I have to sit at a desk to catch up with class.
